Crazy Good Ideas by Glynis

A message from the owner Glynis Tao

Hey Friends,

I know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me. Maybe you’re thinking “where has she been all this time?” Well I’m here to let you know I’m OK! I’ve not forgotten about you!

I wanted to update you as to what’s been happening in my life. I’m now a mama to a wonderfully energetic, smart and funny little boy. My son Chase was born in 2016. I winded down my company Punch Brand at the end of 2016 to be a stay at home mom and taking care of my son.
Making the decision to wind down my business was hard. Punch Brand was my first baby and I ran it for 10 amazing years. The online shop is still open, many products are on sale so you may want to check it out especially if you have little ones.

But all is not lost, I’ve gained tons of experience as a creative business owner and here’s the part of the email that gets exciting. After a lot of soul-searching, I have transitioned to being a business coach and started a consulting agency called Chase Your Dreams. I teach people how to build a sustainable and profitable creative business.

What is business coaching? It is a process used to take a business from where it is now to where the business owner wants it to be. A business coach will assist and guide the business owner in growing their business by helping them clarify the vision of their business and how it fits in with their personal goals.
I developed and built Punch Brand from startup to generate 6-figure sales in the 2nd year of business. I started in artist alley and did most of my sales from anime and comic conventions. You probably have seen me smiling and waving behind my booth if you’ve been to any of the major conventions in Canada and the US.
If you’re a creative entrepreneur aspiring to start or grow your own business I can totally relate to the challenges you are going through. I was exactly where you are when I started my business over 10 years ago.
I’ve experienced my share of challenges through the years. As a small business owner sometimes it feels like you’re trouble shooting more than creating. Right? Who’s with me here? One of the biggest challenges that aspiring entrepreneurs face is the fear that holds them back from even getting started.
If you are thinking of starting a business, I am here to be your guide. I created a free tipsheet to help you get started and conquer your fears. Head over to my NEW website to grab the tipsheet: https://glynistao.com/5-ways-to-shift-your-mindset/. I believe the secret to lasting success is having the right mindset.
Wherever life takes you, just know that you are an amazing person with the potential to do great things. You just have to believe in yourself.
With gratitude,
All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them. – Walt Disney

Celebrating 10 Years of Cuteness

It’s hard to believe that I started this company over 10 years ago. Last year was our 10 year anniversary and we celebrated with a new product launch, swag giveaways, party hats at conventions, Facebook contests, and our first Kickstarter campaign. It was a busy year to say the least. I’ve been running Punch Brand for as long as I can remember, I mean I’ve been working in the apparel industry for nearly 20 years and half of that was owning my own business. It’s a big part of my life and I probably wouldn’t have been able to do it for this long if I wasn’t for the passion I have and all the wonderful fan support I’ve been getting. I cannot thank my fans and customers enough. You are the reason I keep doing what I do. I’ve been wanting to put together a commemorative album with all the memories and photos taken through the years. So I finally put together a photo album containing the best of the best photos. I had to sort through literally thousands of photos, if you can imagine. 10 years is a long time and a lot of memories. I enjoyed putting the photo album together, it was like a walk down memory lane. And to remember all the wonderful people I met and collaborated with and who have helped me through the years. I would like to share some of the photos with you. Please enjoy!

Help Save An Elephant

Dear Fans,

I have a very serious and important message I would like to share with all of you. I believe in strength in numbers and the positive effect we have if we work as a group. Last night as I was going through my emails, I came across an email from an organization I support avaaz.org. It was in regards to the crisis our oceans are facing and need immediate protection. After I signed my name on the petition, I was redirected to the homepage where I saw an extremely disturbing and heartbreaking image of a faceless elephant. Brutally and savagely murdered for it’s ivory.

This was from a mass poaching in Central Africa in 2012 where 600 elephants were killed within 3 months! The poachers spared no elephant, they went for the entire herd including their young 🙁 This image caused me great distress and upset me so much I couldn’t get it out of my mind ( I cried for an hour). How could someone harm such a majestic, gentle and intelligent animal? It reminded me of the cruelty humans are capable of and so I feel absolutely compelled to do something to help these amazing animals.

I believe there are more humans who are willing to do good and help support organizations such as WWF and Avaaz who are actively working to protect these creatures, put an end to illegal ivory trading and capture those savages responsible for this horrible massacre. The fact is that 100 elephants are killed each day and there’s been 100,000 elephants killed by poachers in Africa in just 3 years!!! We must protect these beautiful creatures and put an end to ivory trading before they are extinct.

That’s why Punch Brand’s plan is to donate 10% of its sales of any plush hoodie or vest by the end of this year with a goal of donating $1000 to WWF, and other charities such as Elephants Without Borders and Save The Elephants. Just to show how serious I am to this cause, Punch Brand will start with a contribution of $500. So please share this message and take the first step to help protecting elephants.

Will you help me in my quest to protect these magnificent animals?

XOXO Thank you!

We’re Funded!

We did it! It was an intense 30 days of nail biting, stress inducing, almost heart stopping excitement. It was close, down to the wire but we made it.

Thanks to the support of our backers, we are happy that everyone will be getting their soft plushy vests. So now that we are funded there is much work to be done. We first need to order the fabric and then get ready to make the production.

The fabric will be ordered through a local supplier and I am using a Vancouver contractor to do the production. A lot goes into the making of these vests.

First, patterns need to be made and then graded to make the different sizes. Those are usually made on a CAD system and then a paper pattern is plotted (printed) out.

Next all the pattern pieces need to be laid out across the layers of fabric, which is also known as a marker. The cutter using an industrial hand cutter then hand cuts each piece out carefully following the shape of the pattern.

The cut pieces are then bundled usually by size, and moves onto being sewn together. The sewers then assemble the cut pieces together into the finished garment.

It is then checked and inspected for quality, threads are trimmed and folded ready to be sent out to you. And that in a nutshell is how our garments are made 🙂

It’s all about the Feels…

We’re more than half way through our first ever Kickstarter campaign. This experience has been exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. We had fun making the video, putting the project together and promoting the campaign. We’re hoping we’ll meet our funding goal by November 7th, so if you haven’t yet made your pledge or you know any alpaca lovers out there please share our Kickstarter link: http://kck.st/1GzaAkE

These alpaca-style vests are so soft to touch it’s like you’re wearing clouds. To explain just how soft these vests are we’ve enlisted the help of voice actress Tiffany Grant aka Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Watch her reaction for touching the vest for the first time:
